THE DAIRY STUDIOS, LONDON

Located in a quiet and secluded premises in the bustling heart of Brixton, South London,
The Dairy Studios is a family-owned and run studio which opened for business in the summer of 1995. Designed and built by Roger D’Arcy and Nick Whitaker of Recording Architecture, The Dairy was initially a single studio based around a DDA AMR 24 console, with an impressive live area able to accommodate up to 16 musicians. The DDA has since been moved to producer Craigie Dodds’ production room whilst Studio One, currently on longterm let to Nitin Sawhney, now centres around a Neve VR60 Legend. And this is only one of many changes that have been organically weaving their magic across the expanding studio complex.

Since 1995, two more recording studios have been added: Studio Two, day-lit with wireless internet throughout, is home to Eden Studios‘ 60 channel SSL E-series 6000 as well as a full Pro Tools HD3 rig and a choice selection of old and new outboard. An adjoining booth, with tie-lines, gives line of sight into the control room making it ideal for vocal sessions and overdubbing instruments (even a drum kit on the odd occasion).

Studio Three is a vocal/production room that offers a full Pro Tools HD3 rig, Logic Pro 9 and access to a wide selection of microphones. Clickhere for full spec. It has an adjoining vocal booth and can be linked up to Studio Two’s control room for use as an additional live room if required. There are also three production rooms offered for longterm let to producers, artists and writers.

Studio owner Mary Evans told us, ‘We offer a friendly, professional service, combining vintage and cutting edge technologies to produce top quality records. We purchased Al Stone’s Townhouse microphone collection a little while ago and we are proud to announce our installation of photovoltaic panels which generate electricity and reduce our carbon footprint as well as our bills! Although we attract big name artists and labels, our ethos has always been to help our clients maximise their budget, so up-and-coming artists are always welcome at The Dairy, giving them a chance to produce something that will turn industry heads. We also have a wonderful track record in training up young engineers who have gone on to tremendous success and acclaim. We owe this success to our loyal and varied clientele who have given these young talents an opportunity to flourish whilst themselves benefitting from the fresh enthusiasm of their youth.’
