Shock and Awe is a recording, rehearsal and pre-production studio located in High Barnet, North London. Originally set up as a base for Tom Mansi & The Icebreakers, the studio grew until it was made commercially available to other bands for high quality recording services and rehearsals in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

The control room at Shock and Awe is centred around a 16 channel, 24 bit/192kHz Pro Tools HD Accel system with a Mackie 8 bus console. Monitoring is Genelec and KRK. A selection of outboard compressors and reverb units are available if required but the Pro Tools HD system with various plug-ins or Logic Pro 9 are also available for a total recall ‘In The Box’ mix, if preferred.

In-house producer/engineer Stevan Krakovic told us, ‘Shock and Awe boasts a selection of some of the best new and vintage mics (including, amongst others, an original U47 FET, a stereo pair of vintage Coles 4038s and a stereo pair of AEA R84s) making it a great place for vocal production, drum recording, general recording and pre-production uses. The live room is big enough to house up to four musicians comfortably and there are movable acoustic screens and absorber panels, as well as modifiable walls, to isolate amps or musicians and to adjust the acoustic properties of the room as required. There are also links to two more recording areas for amps or guide vocals if needed.

‘As well as recording and mixing, Shock and Awe can also provide in-house session musicians, producers and string arrangers as well as equipment hire including guitar and bass amps and vintage drum kits. We offer a complete production package, tailored to your specific needs.’

Recent clients at Shock and Awe include Boosey & Hawkes, Wolf People, Kyza, Dubbledge, Static Caravan and Lufthansa. For further information and bookings enquiries please contact Stevan here. (August 2010)
